Locum Tenens Industry Honors National Hospital Week 2022: #WeAreHealthCare

(Edited from online articles from sources including Becker’s Hospital Review, the American Hospital Association (AHA), and USA Today) “National Hospital Week—which aims to recognize and celebrate hospitals, health systems and the people who work at them–begins May 8 and runs through May 14,” Becker’s Healthcare Review reporter Kelly Gooch wrote in an article published May 4. Among several facts Gooch highlighted about this week of recognition were these:
  • National Hospital Week was established on, and occurs around, the May 12 birthday of Florence Nightingale, who is considered the founder of modern nursing.
  • The AHA invited healthcare workers and community members to use the #hospitalweek hashtag this week to share content they found inspirational during the pandemic.
  • Instagram and Facebook offer an augmented-reality “National Hospital Week” filter effect healthcare providers can use in their posts on those platforms.
In a May 6 AHA blog post, American Hospital Association (AHA) President and CEO Richard J. (Rick) Pollack said National Hospital Week, May 8-14, and National Nurses Week, May 6-12, offer opportunities to thank “the dedicated caregivers who stood up to the health care storm of the century.” He noted this year’s theme (“We Are Health Care”) is “a tribute to the more than 6.3 million people who provide such compassionate care day in and day out.”

Salutes from the Locum Tenens Industry

As the COVID-19 pandemic wanes and a healthcare staffing shortage continues around the world, locum tenens agencies and “fill-in” clinicians have become even more critical in enabling healthcare facilities to continue providing care. Locum tenens physicians and advanced practice providers can spell ‘relief’ for overwhelmed facilities and overworked clinicians–especially during challenging times like the past couple of years have been. Following is a sample of how locum tenens agencies are recognizing National Hospital Week.

National Nurses Week Continues Through Thursday

(Edited from USA Today article by Kelly Tyko, 5/6/2022)

It’s time to thank members of the nation’s most-trusted profession.

Analytics company Gallup has consistently named nursing as the most-trusted profession in its ratings of honesty and ethical standards in professions. Nurses made Gallup’s annual ranking for the 20th straight year in January 2022.

Some businesses across the country are showing nurses a little love by offering freebies and discounts for National Nurses Week, which officially kick(ed) off Friday, May 6, with National Nurses Day. It ends on Florence Nightingale’s birthday, May 12.

Crocs said it has donated nearly 1 million pairs of shoes to healthcare heroes with its “Free Pair for Healthcare” program since spring 2020. The company said it would have a giveaway starting at noon ET Friday that will end at noon ET on May 12.

The company has teamed up with FIGS to offer a special drawing to receive a pair of free scrubs and classic clogs. Winners will be selected randomly and notified within 12 hours of the drawings’ closing, Crocs said on the entry page. Learn more and enter here. (See the fine print here.)

The dates of the special offers and participation vary by location. For more information on these “deals,” click here.
